BTEX Monitoring

BTEX is an abbreviation for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene. Benzene (C6C6) is produced in petroleum and oil refineries as well as chemical and plastics manufacturing plants. Toluene (C7H8) forms as an intermediate product in the manufacturing of explosives and colourants and is also used as a dissolvent for plastics. Both of these gases are poisonous and have a similar smell. Ethylbenzene (C8H10) is an essential intermediate used to produce styrene, while xylene (C8H10) is produced through catalytic reforming of petroleum; both toluene and xylene are components of petrol. All of these gas compounds are carcinogens, and are measured in an open path fence-line at facility sites to monitor and control emissions.

Our Differential Optical Absorption Spectrometer (DOAS) is an instrument engineered for BTEX monitoring. It ensures accurate and rapid response to BTEX levels. Our DOAS provides:

  • Reliable, accurate data
  • Rapid response – within tens of seconds if desired
  • Continuous emissions monitoring
  • Correction of interferences from other gases
  • Easy maintenance and improved process control
